WCSGA Code of Conduct

This establishes the conduct expected of Association members and defines the procedure for addressing behavior by a member or members which may breach the expected standard of conduct.

______________________________________________________

Association tournaments are played according to USGA Rules, as modified by Local Rules of Play. Attention is drawn to USGA Rule 1.2, which states:

“1.2.a. Conduct Expected of All Players

All players are expected to play in the spirit of the game by:

  • Acting with integrity – for example, by following the Rules, applying all penalties, and being honest in all aspects of play.
  • Showing consideration to others – for example, by playing at a prompt pace, looking out for the safety of others, and not distracting the play of another player.
  • Taking good care of the course – for example, by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, repairing ball-marks, and not causing unnecessary damage to the course.

  1.2.b. Code of Conduct

The Committee may set its own standards of player conduct in a Code of Conduct adopted as a Local Rule.” (Emphasis added)  ..”

WCSGA Standards

1. Conduct expected of members

Members are expected to exemplify sportsmanship in all their actions and to adhere to the conduct described in USGA Rule 1.2.a.

In addition, specifically:

  • Cellphone use should be conducted in “silent” mode, except for an emergency.
  • Audible playing of radios or similar devices during play is only allowed if all members of the playing group approve and the volume is low enough to prevent distracting other groups.

2. Procedures for dealing with Code of Conduct violations

a. Rules interpretation and scoring issues

  • These are defined in USGA Rule 1.3 “playing by the Rules”.
  • Any issue should be brought to the attention of the Association Tournament Director, whose decision will be final.

b. Member behavior

  • If a member believes that another member has not behaved in the manner expected of the Association Code of Conduct, he should bring the matter to the attention of the Association President.
  • The President will conduct an appropriate review and present his recommended action to the Association Board.
  • The Board may, at its discretion, decide, by majority of the voting members, to issue a warning to the member or to suspend or terminate membership of the member whose conduct is found to be in breach of the Code of Conduct.
  •  Any member whose membership is suspended or terminated will NOT be entitled to a refund of dues.
