WCSGA Side Games

Closest To the Pin (CTP):
Tournament participants who play from the white and gold tees have the option of entering the CTP side game for $4, payable in cash at the Side Game table. The holes in play are the four par 3s.

There are two CTP groups, based on handicap, a Low Handicap group and a High Handicap group. The cut-off between the two groups will be set in advance and will attempt to equalize the number of players in each group.

It is the sole responsibility of the participant to enter his name on the correct group sign-up sheet. Current handicaps can be checked with the person manning the Side Games table, an Association officer or as posted on the website. Callaway players must sign up in the Low Handicap group.

During play, players who think they have the closest shot need to confirm this with their fellow players and enter their name on the correct marker placed on the green for this purpose. The marker is used to mark where the player’s ball came to rest.

If the player makes a hole in one, this should be noted on the marker and the marker placed at the back of the green.

Winners are paid out in cash immediately after the tournament. Any errors or misunderstandings will be addressed by Association officers to achieve fairness to all players.

  • A player entering his name on the wrong sign-up list is disqualified from the CTP competition.
  • A player entering his name on the wrong CTP marker at the green is disqualified from the competition for that hole.

Hole In One (HIO):

Tournament participants have the option to enter the HIO competition. The fee to enter is payable in cash at the Side Games table. HIO fees are recorded separately from Association general funds and are used only to pay HIO winners. HIO funds are deposited in an Association bank account by the Treasurer, and winners are paid by check by the Treasurer.

Note: The fee was temporarily waived due to sufficient balance in the HIO fund but has been re-instated as of May 2023. Balance as of 5/1/2023 is $2061.

The HIO policy is detailed below.

  1. Only funds collected for the HIO fund will be paid out. No General Funds will be used.
  2. The fee per member per tournament will be $1.00.
  3. Only Association members in good standing can enter the HIO competition. All participants must sign the HIO entry sheet before play starts. Note: All players are automatically entered only while the entry fee is being waived.
  4. The HIO payout (prize) per tournament will be 50% of the HIO fund balance until the HIO fund exceeds $1,000, at which point the maximum payout per tournament will be $500.
  5. There is no guaranteed payout amount. Multiple HIOs occurring on the same day, in the same tournament, will equally share the HIO payout for that tournament.

Note: As of June 2021, and until further notice, all White and Gold Tee players in a tournament will be eligible to win the HIO prize, subject to the limitation described in Item 5.

Skins:

Tournament participants have the option of entering the Skins competition, played on both a Gross and Net basis. The fee for entering is $5 for each game and is payable in cash at the Side Games table. You can enter either Gross or Net for $5, or both for $10.

  • Players entered in the Gross Skins competition are combined in a single group
  • Players entered in the Net Skins competition are split into Low Handicap and High Handicap groups using the same index cut-off used for the CTP competition, the indexes in Golf Genius are used so players do not need to self select groups like the CTP competition

For those not familiar with Skins, it is a hole by hole competition, where you win holes by being the singular low score across all players in the group. Gross Skins is comparing your actual score, while Net Skins is comparing your actual score minus your handicap adjustment (# of strokes/bumps) for that hole.

Net Examples:

                   Score      Strokes    Net

Player A      4             1         3

Player B      4             2         2      Player B has the singular low net score, so he wins a skin on this hole.

Player C      5             1         4

Player A      4             1         3

Player B      5             2         3       Player A and B tie on a net basis, so there is no skin on this hole.

Player C      5             1         4

The total purse for a group is divided by the number of skins won within the group to determine the payout per skin. Winners are paid out in cash after the tournament.

Because it is a hole by hole competition it is very important that scores are entered correctly hole by hole, which should be validated by all playing partners. Any errors or misunderstandings will be addressed by Association officers to achieve fairness to all players.
